Information is continuing to pour in as the destruction from this morning’s earthquake and tsunamis in Japan become more apparent and the death toll is continuing to rise.

Tsunami warnings are in effect for almost the entire Pacific Ocean and smaller tsunami just began striking Hawaii about 20 minutes ago.

Just a short time ago, officials began evacuating thousands of people who live near a nuclear power plant.

Part of that plant caught on fire and the cooling system has failed.

As of right now, officials say there is no immediate danger of a radiation leak but the reactor core remains hot even after shutdown.

Japan was rocked by an 8.9 magnitude quake around 1 a.m. ET.

That triggered almost instant tsunamis that swept across many areas, destroying everything in its path.

It also may be to blame for a volcanic eruption in Indonesia that began just hours after the quake and is also in the so-called Ring of Fire.
